The former Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof John Sebuwufu, has been appointed as the substantive principal of Kisubi Brothers University College (KBUC) as it moves closer to becoming a fully-fledged university.
Prof Sebuwufu takes over from Dr Bernard Luwerekera who has been serving in acting capacity following the handover of Brother Deogratius Mugerwa last year.
The institution, which began as a study centre is a constituent college of Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi.
Speaking at the introduction of Prof Sebuwufu at the campus in Kisubi, Prof Charles Olweny, the Nkozi Vice Chancellor, commended the institution for the rapid growth.
Officials said arrangements are yet to be finalised so that the college is elevated into a fully-fledged institution of higher learning.
The plans include acquisition of a land title, installation of a board of trustees and recruitment of a substantive principal who would turn into the vice chancellor. “It will not be long to celebrate the full autonomy of KBUC as a full university but there is need to work as a winning team in order to move to another level. You must be prepared to take calculated risks otherwise the institution will remain status quo,” Prof Olwenyi said.
Prof Sebuwufu, the director of research programmes at the Association of African Universities in Ghana pledged to steer the institution to university status. “There is a lot of work but much of my energies will be targeted towards development,” he said.
